Other people, such as professional experts and loved ones, can support you during your struggle with anxiety, but only you can choose to implement changes in your life in an effort to reduce and heal your anxiety.

So, the first tip for anxiety relief is to shift your thinking toward inner power or self-power.

2. Keep an Anxiety Journal

Paying attention to your anxiety can help you establish what you are doing to make your anxiety worse.

For some people, anxiety is always present, but if you pay close attention, it does go slightly up or slightly down in different situations and with different people.

For example, when I started paying attention to my anxiety, I noticed that the following were the worst culprits:

  • Fast food and desserts
  • Cheese
  • Alcohol and Caffeine
  • Sleeping next to my laptop
  • Being inside all-day

The best way to pay attention to your anxiety is to keep an anxiety journal. You can journal daily about your anxiety levels and activities to help you become more aware of your worst culprits.

3. Eat Healthily

A clean and healthy diet can help you achieve anxiety relief long-term.

Eating healthily means consuming natural whole foods and limiting processed foods.

Natural foods include vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fruit, fresh meat and fish, nuts and seeds. In contrast, processed foods have been changed from their natural form and include refined carbohydrates, cold meats, desserts, baked goods, and similar.

4. Try to get plenty of Fresh Air

Getting plenty of fresh air on a regular basis is another great tip for anxiety relief.

Fresh air helps to clear mental congestion caused by anxiety. You can think of this technique as mental hygiene.

Get fresh air fast by:

  • Walking wherever you can
  • Spending time in nature
  • Visiting parks

For extra anxiety relief, walk barefoot on the grass.

5. Get Good Quality Sleep

Lack of sleep and poor sleep increase anxiety. Equally, anxiety can be exhausting!

  • Hold for 4 counts before breathing in again
  • Repeat this process 4 times

This is an effective technique because by counting your breathing, you are focused on counting and breathing, making it more difficult to wander off into the future.
